10 Things You Probably Didn't Know About The Cloverfield Franchise

3. Other Movie Connections

A Quiet Place Lee
Paramount Pictures

The Cloverfield Paradox brought a completely new genre to the franchise, looking at space dimensions and alternate realities in which the disasters could be lurking. At the end of the film (spoilers) the space station survivors escape and make their return to Earth, in which a giant monster leaps out of the clouds in the last few seconds.

This monster is different to the original film and 10 Cloverfield Lane's more techno space approach in their ending, and has triggered questions from fans about which apocalypse the world is facing in the film's extended universe.

Fans of the franchise and the horror genre itself have found connections to other movies, with similar monsters and plots. John Krasinski's and Emily Blunt's A Quiet Place was originally pitched to take place within the Cloververse, with the creatures in the movie resembling the famous monsters seen in the first Cloverfield. The same occurs within Abrams and Speilberg's Super 8, in which fans were convinced before release that this would connect to the trilogy.

In the third film, audiences are reminded that there are many dimensions in which Earth resides - meaning that every film could really be a Cloverfield instalment somewhere...
