10 Things You Won't See In Avengers: Age Of Ultron
6. Coulson Lives?
In the early stages of MCU construction, Clark Gregg managed to do a lot with a little in his role as Agent Coulson.
Coulson introduced the S.H.I.E.L.D. agency in Iron Man and made brief cameos in its sequel and Thor, even taking centre stage in the first two Marvel One-Shots before being given a plum role in The Avengers. Such was the affection for Phil, his death at the hands of Loki struck a poignant note in a for the most part breezy adventure and proved Marvel was willing to say goodbye to a prominent character.
That is, until they said hello again when Coulson made a miraculous recovery to helm the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. television series. However, with S.H.I.E.L.D. on life support following the events of The Winter Soldier and plenty going on in Age Of Ultron already, Coulson will almost certainly be sitting this one out.
Joss Whedon said, “I already have too much movie” when the possibility of a big-screen return for Coulson was mooted some time ago, while more recently the director has asserted, “As far as the fiction of the movies, Coulson is dead.” Given the logistical problems of bringing back a character whose demise helped motivate the Avengers first time round, a bait-and-switch here seems unlikely in the extreme.
