10 Times Doctor Who Appeared In Movies

Apparently, Disney loves Doctor Who just as much as we do.

Doctor Who is one of the most influential shows of all time, with countless projects across the TV and gaming industries slotting in references to the sci-fi classic.

The same is true of the movie space too, and though Doctor Who's list of big-screen cameos isn't quite as extensive as it is with those other two mediums, there are still plenty of nods to the Whoniverse from across the movie landscape.

Even though the show hasn't been adapted into a film itself (not counting the TV movie, or the unofficial Cushing spinoffs), Doctor Who and cinema have a closer connection than you think. From recent animated hits to old-school shlock, there are quite a few flicks that reference the show in some subtle way, whether it's a visual gag, a background easter egg, or even a word-for-word line of dialogue.

Oh and by the way, Bill & Ted isn't included in this list. For one thing, it's the most obvious reference out there, and for another, the writers hadn't even heard of Doctor Who when they chose a time-travelling phone booth, so it isn't actually a reference to our favourite show.

With that out of the way, let's dive in to some of the best Doctor Who references in movies...

10. A Shaun The Sheep Movie: Farmageddon

Shaun the Sheep's TV show was no stranger to Doctor Who references, like the hilarious sight of a sheep cosplaying as a Dalek in Series 2's Party Animals.

So, Aardman Animation decided to continue with these shout-outs when Shaun made the jump to the big-screen in 2019's Farmageddon.

The sequel to 2015's Shaun the Sheep Movie, Farmageddon includes several Doctor Who easter eggs, from the alien creature Lu-La picking up a sonic screwdriver, to a man dressed as the Fourth Doctor exiting a portable toilet.

A sheep also disguises itself as a Dalek while attempting to sneak into the Farmageddon theme park, bleating "EXTERMINATE" to the rather confused farmer.

Incidentally, prolific Doctor Who writer (and K9 co-creator) Bob Baker wrote the Wallace and Gromit shorts The Wrong Trousers, A Matter of Loaf and Death, and A Close Shave - the latter of which introduced Shaun.

So these two British legends have quite the shared history!
