10 Times Marvel Movies F*cked Up Character Design

6. Whiplash - Iron Man 2

Whiplash's costume choices are a funny one. For all its faults, Iron Man 2 does a decent job of showing him building his arsenal from the ground up. The scenes at the Monaco Grand Prix are also undeniably thrilling, with Rourke's Ivan Vanko bossing Tony Stark with nothing but a basic looking rig and some tattered overalls. It's a great scene and a strong look, sticking in the minds of those who saw Iron Man 2 as a definite highlight. Unfortunately, Iron Man 2 promptly shot its load when it came to making Whiplash a threat worthy of both Iron Man and War Machine in the third act, dumping Rourke into yet another giant robotic suit that could just as easily have been left over concept art from Obadiah Stane's Iron Monger get up. It's unnecessary when we've seen what the character can do without such a ridiculous suit of armour already and it only really serves to hammer home Tony's superiority in the 'building robotic death costumes' stakes. Yawn.
