3. Unappealing Costume Changes For The X-Men
Following the success of films such as The Matrix and Blade, black leather ensembles were all the rage in Hollywood. While that stylistic choice worked well for those films, it was not appropriate at all for the X-Men's cinematic debut.
In the comics, the Merry Band of Mutants' costumes are varied, striking and colourful, each highlighting their X-Man's specific attributes, such as their powers and personalities.
This was far from the case in the 2000 superhero ensemble where the titular team's outfits were nowhere near as vibrant as their comics counterpart. To add insult to injury, Cyclops' line about "yellow spandex" felt less like an homage and more like a pointless dig at the source material.
While it is true that the film was released in the early days of the modern superhero movie, previous stories such as 1978's Superman and subsequent stories such as the Spider-Man trilogy and the MCU proved that comics-accurate suits can work well on the big screen.
