10 Times Marvel Movies Negatively Influenced The Comics
4. Wanda And Pietro Maximoff Were No Longer Mutants
The first of several instances where Fox's purchase of multiple Marvel characters rubbed Marvel the wrong way, the MCU's change of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver's backstories also happened in the comics, much to the dismay of the fans.
The source material initially imagined Wanda and Pietro Maximoff as mutant twin siblings and the children of Magneto. After leaving the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, they joined heroic teams such as the X-Men and the Avengers.
Despite this, the twins were depicted as genetic experiments created by HYDRA in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron. This was because Disney at the time did not own the rights to the X-Men, as well as Fox's success with Quicksilver in particular.
True to form, Marvel revealed in an Uncanny Avengers story that the sibling pairing were in fact normal humans who were experimented upon by the High Evolutionary. In addition to this change making little sense continuity-wise, removing the twins' mutanthood robbed them of a key component of their connection to their villainous father.
