10 Times MCU Movies Missed Out Key Plot Points
6. Thanos' Romances Death - Avengers: Infinity War
Imagine Avengers: Infinity War featured scenes where the Mad Titan stops being a monster for a moment to daydream about winning a girl's heart. That could have been the case if not for the writers hadn't rightfully made the decision to make some changes.
Thanos' idea of a better universe boiled down to basic maths and a stubborn belief that he was the only one capable of making that decision. The change worked well and made the audience unsure on the correct option if they were left in that situation. The altruistic nature of this genocidal plan is thrown completely out the window within the pages of Jim Starlin's Infinity Gauntlet. The motivation is much simpler, kill half the universe, get the girl.
Mistress Death tasks Thanos with killing half the universe in order to restore the balance of living beings to dead. He becomes obsessed with finding the most effective way of enacting her plan and sets out to collect the Infinity Stones. When this fails to impress her, the Titan confides in Mephisto who suggests her lack of interest is because Thanos has failed to complete the task he was set. Only then does he use the stones to wipe out half of all life in the universe.
The aftermath is an epic, cosmic adventure featuring Adam Warlock, Galactus and Epoch. The Earth's mightiest heroes don't actually get together until after the event. Thanos is eventually attacked by the cosmic entities who have banded against him, including Mephisto and his true love, Death.
