10 Times Movie Directors Went Too Far To Get A Scene

Oliver Stone's Platoon (1986) is a raw examination of what happens to young men when they're put in a situation were morals and ethics seemingly have no place. Partly based on Stone's own experiences in Vietnam, the film was one of the first to really show the horrors of what went on, specifically focusing on the treatment of the locals by U.S. soldiers. The most harrowing moment shows the platoon taking out their frustrations on a village of innocent civilians.

In the 2018 documentary, Brothers In Arms, Johnny Depp tells the story of how one of the on set advisors, a member of Philippine Constabulary police, almost pulled a gun on Oliver Stone due to his treatment of a young girl.

Stone was dissatisfied with the girl's performance, and yelled at her in an attempt to induce some real tears. Depp claims he stepped in to stop the police officer from doing anything drastic. The officer went on to warn the crew that if he ever witnessed a little girl treated that way again, people would disappear.
