10 Times Movie Sequels Screwed Over Strong Female Characters

3. Hermione Granger - Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets

In 2001, the world of cinema was introduced to an aspiring young witch called Hermione Granger.

Hermione (played by Emma Watson) was smart, brave and devoted to her best friends Ron Weasley and Harry Potter. Whenever Ron and Harry would get in trouble, they could always rely on Hermione to bail them out with a flick of her wand.

In Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets, Hermione quickly became a fan favourite and would later inspire little girls all over the world with her strength and resilience.

She very much steals the show with her witty remarks and superior intellect without being too arrogant or self indulgent.

Although she is still her feisty self in the sequel, Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets, there isn't nearly enough screen time dedicated to Hermione despite her popularity from the first film.

The film is far more action packed than the first installment with Ron and Harry flying a car (and getting it stuck in The Whomping Willow), battling a swarm of spiders and fighting the basilisk. But, within these action sequences, Hermione is nowhere to be seen as she spends half of the film petrified and unconscious.

I see my role at WhatCulture the same way my wife sees my role as a lover: I contribute in a very small way, my presence is barely noticeable and I’m not entirely sure if the laughter is at me or with me.
