10 Times That Hollywood Misunderstood The Impact Of Big-Budget Movies

8. Bigger Isn't Always Better

One downside of expanding cinematic universes and churning out endless sequels is each entry’s need for ever-escalating set pieces and stakes. If properly handled, then the film may be an incredible blend of mind-blowing visuals and memorable action beats that are extensions of the culminations of the characters' various journeys.

Unfortunately, this is not always the case. As mentioned, a constant supply of sequels means that the crew members working on them are forced to produce quality results despite lacking enough resources and time to do so. This means that the imagery on screen becomes visual noise and an unsavoury blend of pixels and the action beats become a chore to make sense of, let alone watch.

Speaking of which, larger action beats are often brought about by ever increasing stakes that seek to top what came before. As seen in the Pirates of the Caribbean and Transformers franchises, unbelievably high stakes can alienate the audiences and distract from the films' already wanting character arcs and narratives.
