10 Times The MCU Broke The Fourth Wall

1. WandaVision's Recasting - WandaVision

Despite many hoping that Evan Peter's shocking appearance as Quicksilver in the conclusion of Episode Five of WandaVision would open the door for the rest of Xavier's Fox School for Gifted Children to burst through the multi-verse, in reality, this twist was designed as nothing more than a way to play with yet another sitcom trope but in the most fourth-wall-destroying way imaginable.

Knowingly recasting the role of Pietro with Peters - known by super-fans for his displays as the super-fast mutant in the Fox universe - mid-way through this show within a show's run, as sitcoms have been known to regularly do, WandaVision showrunner Matt Shakman has also gone on record to admit that this bait and switch of sorts was a way to play with audience's expectations in a similar fashion to that of Ben Kingsley in Iron Man 3.

And in another blink-and-you'll-miss it fourth-wall-smashing nod, Tommy blurts out "kick-ass" in response to his uncle on Halloween, leading to Wanda repeating the line. Both Peters and Aaron Taylor-Johnson appeared in the rated R superhero romp of the same name together outside of the MCU, too.

Coincidence? I think not...
