10 Times Writers Hated The Movie Versions Of Their Work

7. Children Of The Corn

There have been so many Stephen King film adaptations that it's fully possible to make a list dedicated entirely to the horror writer himself, but one of the adaptations he despised the most was undoubtedly Children of the Corn.

King wrote a script for the film, which was based on a short story he first published in Penthouse magazine. King's version of the script focused on his original characters of Burt and Vicky, a temperamental couple trying to fix their broken marriage. King also wanted to add a bit of mythos and history to the town and tie it all into a larger plot, but the movie executives preferred to keep things simple.

They ignored King's screenplay in favour of one written by George Goldsmith which was easier to follow and much more gruesome. Nine additional Children of the Corn films have since been released, mostly in direct-to-video format, and the franchise has a strong cult following and has done relatively well for itself, despite drawing the ire of the King of Horror.
