10 Tired Film Franchises That Desperately Need A Break

Despite Days Of Future Past being one of the finest superhero flicks of all time, Apocalypse was a monumentally vapid drag, pointlessly carrying on a story that had already concluded.
It showed just how devoid of inspiration the filmmakers were, as the two and a half hour long slog purposefully set out to rehash old story ideas, only making them worse. Returning to Alkali Lake? You got it. An all-powerful mutant baddie who thinks humans are the worst? You betcha. Magneto changing sides at the last minute? Of course.
It's an especially frustrating experience, considering just how wonderful everything else besides these core films is turning out. Deadpool was a wonderfully irreverent film, Legion is great, and Logan was the finest comic book film of 2017.
Dark Phoenix is on the horizon for 2018, and we at least know its tackling a previously-told storyline i.e. they are STILL not embracing the comic-accurate origins of the Phoenix.
With Disney recently brokering a deal to buy Fox, the characters are soon to be integrated into the MCU, in one way or another. But these characters need a break, badly. They're stale, out-of-date, and just feel worn through.
