10 Toho Kaiju Who Need To Appear In The MonsterVerse After Godzilla Vs. Kong
3. Biollante
The first original kaiju from the Heisei era and the first
real opponent that Godzilla has to face, Biollante appears in the 1989 film Godzilla
vs. Biollante. Unlike most other kaiju, Biollante is based on a flower, being a
genetically modified rose. A scientist named Genichiro Shiragami had spliced
cells from his deceased daughter, Erika, into the rose, and later spliced in
additional cells from Godzilla. This combination caused the rose to mutate into
Biollante.
Biollante has two different forms throughout the film. The first is known as the ‘Flower Beast’ form, in which she takes on the appearance of a giant rose; this form is quickly defeated by Godzilla. Biollantes’ second form, called the ‘Plant Beast’ form, is far more formidable. Sporting a large grotesque mouth, she takes on an appearance similar to that of ‘Audrey II’ from the 1986 film Little Shop of Horrors. As well as these two forms, it is speculated by the films characters that Biollante is in fact immortal, as she is able to turn her body into ‘Energy Spores’ - a process which completely regenerated her.
It is noted at the end of 2019’s Godzilla: King of the
Monsters that the locations where the titans have been were healed, causing
fresh plants and foliage to grow. This could be an interesting way to introduce
Biollante into the MonsterVerse, with this new life growing out of control of
the humans and forcing Godzilla to step in once again.
