After appearing as a bastardised version of the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, you'd have been forgiven for thinking that was the end of Wade Wilson's big-screen career. However, thanks in part to the famous leaked test footage of Ryan Reynolds, that wasn't the case.

In 2016, Deadpool's very own solo film was released, something that even the character couldn't quite believe as he broke the fourth wall early on. To say the movie was a hit would be a massive understatement, he instantly became one of the most popular properties Fox had to boast, and a sequel came just two years later.

Deadpool wasn't alone in 2018, as he surrounded himself with his X-Force team, Cable - as promised in the original film's post-credit scene - and one of the greatest X-Men cameos in history. That said, it was the surprising amount of heart and emotion surrounding Vanessa's (Morena Baccarin) death and Wade's struggle to accept it that put Deadpool 2 over the original.

Then came the threequel, a project no one would have thought possible even just a few years earlier. Wolverine's trilogy went from strength to strength, and thanks in large part to his appearance in the third Deadpool movie, so did Wade Wilson's. Deadpool & Wolverine was able to give the world the R-rated buddy comedy they wanted, while still protecting the legacy of Logan, which was no easy feat.
