10 Underrated Disney Films Everyone Forgets
1. Darby O'Gill & The Little People
What do you get when you combine Irish folklore, a funny old man with a love for fantasy, and Sean Connery singing? Why, the 1959 classic that is Darby O'Gill and the Little People, of course!
Darby O'Gill is the caretaker of a large estate in a small town who constantly tells tales of trying to catch leprechauns. He finally does catch one, but is wholly unprepared for what that means.
This isn't a typical Disney film in that it isn't particularly musical, but it does feature one notable song in particular. That is thanks to Sean Connery's sweet and warm turn as Michael McBride, three years before James Bond debuted on the silver screen. Connery's "Pretty Irish Girl" is short, but beautiful in that it's a small slice of who Michael is underneath his seemingly rough exterior. It's surprising that it would only be a short time before he became a household name as a dashing secret agent with a fast car and a gun.
This movie has some dark moments, but is overall a fun romp on the Emerald Isle. There's a reason it tops this list, so go check it out!
