10 Underrated Marvel Movies That Deserve Another Chance

1. The Incredible Hulk

2008's The Incredible Hulk isn't so much a film that has been harshly critiqued (though criticism was a factor) as much as its been unjustly forgotten. Both of which are a shame, because it's fantastic.

It doesn't adhere to the infamous Marvel formula, as it had not yet been established, and it features a great villain in the form of Abomination. So, two of the major criticisms some MCU films get are already out the window. Plus, no disrespect to Mar Ruffalo or Bill Bixby, but Edward Norton is the single best actor to ever portray Dr. Bruce Banner, as he handles the character's inner turmoil about his new alternate persona perfectly.

This brings us to the criticism aspect.

Norton has been denounced for being a "control freak" with the movie, but the detail that tends to be overlooked is that he was simply doing everything in his power to make the film presentable, as the original script was subpar at best. Frankly, this is admirable, considering that many actors couldn't care less about the quality of the film they're in, so long as they're getting paid.

Norton fixed the script, turned in a brilliant performance, and Director Louis Leterrier and the special effects team took care of the rest, with the final product being one of Marvel's best-written, best-looking, most intense films ever.

Not counting The Avengers, The Incredible Hulk is arguably the best film of the MCU's first phase.
