10 Underrated Sci-Fi Sequels (That Deserve Way More Love)
1. Godzilla: King Of The Monsters
The third entry in Legendary's MonsterVerse and a direct sequel to the 2014 reboot, Godzilla: King of the Monsters had fans foaming at the mouth long before its release with two magnificent trailers that were nothing short of majestic. Unfortunately, the film's release was met with a more mixed response, as critics weren't fond of the slow pacing or the thinly-written characters.
While it's hard to argue with them over the weak development of Vera Farmiga's Emma Chandler, that doesn't mean the film was poor by any means. After all, movies in this genre require the audience to suspend their disbelief so it's not too much of a stretch to expect them to buy into unusual character behaviour (even if its did require a lot more work). And besides, it paved the way for showdowns that were absolutely glorious.
The previous Godzilla film was criticised for both its lack of Godzilla and its infuriating habit of cutting away during the fight scenes. King of The Monsters, however, improved upon that - featuring some of the most epic battles and awe-inspiring visuals in cinematic history.
There are two ways of watching Godzilla: King of The Monsters. One is the way that the writers clearly wanted you to see it: a thought-provoking piece on some of mankind's most destructive habits. The other is as a big-dumb-fun monster movie. And while the former will leave you pulling holes in its logic, watching it as the latter will have you chilling with some popcorn and enjoying an incredibly fun film.
