10 Unexpectedly Awesome 2017 Movies Everyone Thought Would Suck

4. The Babysitter

Why It Should've Sucked: Considering that McG has made only one remotely decent film (Charlie's Angels) and that was almost 20 years ago, it was hard to be particularly optimistic about his stab at a lower-budget horror-comedy, going straight to Netflix no less.

After all, why would the filmmaker behind slop like Terminator Salvation, This Means War and 3 Days to Kill actually deliver an entertaining movie?

Why It Was Awesome: Whether it was a fluke or not, The Babysitter was a surprisingly hilarious, grisly little film, perhaps suggesting that free from the usual studio constraints, the preposterously-monikered director can do fine work.

Making the most of its talented on-the-rise cast, sharp visuals and gnarly gore, this has cult classic written all over it, and is one of the more purely fun Netflix Originals released this year. Don't sleep on it.
