10 Unintentionally Funny Moments In Star Wars

3. Boba Fett’s Death

Okay yes, don’t worry—we’re aware that technically speaking Boba Fett’s not dead, since an Expanded Universe novel has him somehow scrambling out of the ravenous sarlacc’s pit, proving it’s less inescapable than expected.

Nonetheless, what we got onscreen in the franchise’s third instalment and the close of the original trilogy Return of the Jedi is the best bounty hunter in the galaxy dying by—well, by being barely even bumped by Han, send him flying into the side of a barge, and skidding down to the ground, eventually rolling into the waiting mouth of the sarlacc.

A lot like poor Mace Windu, fans had reasonably expected that a character with as ferocious a reputation as Fett would get a more dignified death, or at least one which didn’t retcon him into a spectacularly clumsy goofball. At least the moment provided one of the original trilogy’s biggest laughs.

Besides, between this scene and the Ewok’s ignominious end, there’s no denying that we had plenty of foreshadowing for the prequel trilogy’s sillier self-serious scenes.

Cathal Gunning hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
