10 Universally Disliked Blockbusters (That Really Aren’t That Bad)

3. Prometheus

Expectations for Prometheus were sky high; how could they not be? It had Ridley Scott returning to the Alien franchise to direct a (sort of) prequel, with a cast that included Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba and Charlize Theron. How could that not be awesome?

Sadly the movie fell short of its own potential; the reviews were mixed, and fan reaction was mostly negetive. While Prometheus has its share of issues (massive plot holes, dumb character choices), it’s still an entertaining mix of lofty sci-fi drama and trashy b-movie. It’s a big budget epic that questions the origin of mankind, and what it means to be human. The first half is a genuinely absorbing mystery, and Michael Fassbender’s performance as David the android is perhaps one of his best.

It then mixes those classy elements with an alien abortion scene, Michael Fassbender’s head being used to beat Guy Pearce to death and annoying characters being killed by their own stupidity. So yeah, it’s messy movie for sure, but it’s an ambitious, beautiful and intriguing one.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
