10 Universally Disliked Blockbusters (That Really Aren’t That Bad)
2. Constantine
If you’re going to cast anybody to play a blond haired, Liverpudlian occult detective who was modelled after Sting, then Keanu Reeves isn't really the obvious pick. Nevertheless, chosen he was to play the character in the movie version, which still makes fans angry to this day despite the movie being pretty good. Yes, you read right.
Reeves has a lot of fun playing the chain-smoking cynic, and it’s one of his better performances. Constantine also has a lot of eerie, inventive monsters and imagery (Hell looks terrifying here), and it's a unique fusion of film noir and horror. Tilda Swinton and Peter Stormare steal their respective scenes, and while the movie is surprisingly dark for PG-13 it balances things out with jet black humour.
Shia LaBeouf is annoying as Constantine’s partner, but at least he gets throttled to death to make up for it. It’s not the most accurate adaptation of the comic, but it didn’t deserve the concentrated waves of hate it received either.
