10 Unknown Actors Who Kicked Serious Ass In Major Films

7. Christopher Mintz-Plasse - Superbad

Christopher Mintz-Plasse rose to fame as quickly as his on-screen character - the alter-ego-come-cult-classic international man of mystery and inspiration for every underage drinker out there - McLovin. Superbad (his first feature film) saw Mintz-Plasse play 'the guy with the fake ID' -€“ the chosen one whose responsibility it is to get the booze to the party. It's a role that many can relate to and Mintz-Plasse plays it with the naivety and awkwardness that we'd like to think we didn't have, but in hindsight, probably did. The majority of the film sees the actor playing off against big-time comedy boys Seth Rogen and Bill Hader as the cops who take him on a ride-along however his finest moment comes in the store, buying booze. The awkward one-way conversation with Mindy the check-out girl epitomizes the struggles of being a youth in one fantastically paced scene. "Ha" he says awkwardly, "I've been drinking that stuff for years..." Mintz-Plasse landed the role with only high-school level acting experience and head shots taken on a camera phone but when the movie (and his performance) earned critical and commercial success, he found himself nominated for several 'breakthrough acts' awards and on a steep rising path of comedic popularity.
