When hopeless Jim Levenstein "arrives early" on a webcam being broadcast around his entire school, one of the shocked parties watching is the entirety of blink-182 and a monkey.

However, despite being rather fleeting and spontaneous, the band had a part in the film long before it was ever made. Mark Hoppus told a reporter of the appearance way back in 1998, before later revealing that it was due to bandmate Tom DeLonge auditioning for a role in the movie.

“We were part of that movie before it was even made, when it was just a script getting circulated around Hollywood. A friend of ours brought it to our attention and I thought it was the funniest script I’d ever seen. I think Tom read for one of the parts, or something like that. We were really proud to be part of that film. It’s awesome.”

The band's cameo in the movie still holds up well to this day and they went on to feature on the sequel's soundtrack, but how different American Pie could have been with DeLonge in a more major role.
