10 Unnecessary But Annoyingly Successful Film Sequels

9. Cars 2 (2012)

When you think of Cars 2, it now has the reputation for being Pixar's first flop in their seemingly flawless film library. I have personally never disliked a Pixar film, but I would say that the original Cars was one of the weakest. That's not a bad thing by any means, as it was still great. But Cars 2? That's a whole different story. The animation is as amazing as ever. The voices are, too. But the storytelling really does leave a lot to be desired. The film was completely devoid of the charm and the warmth that a Pixar film usually delivers, which was such a disappointment. It truly felt like an exercise in merchandise sales, capitalising on the success of the characters from Cars to sell more toys. However, did that stop it from being a success at the box office? Not really. Cars 2 grossed $559,852,396 worldwide. I can only hope now that Pixar learns from their mistake and doesn't continue with this franchise any further. The first film was great and a worthy addition to the Pixar library, but the second definitely wasn't. Let's just forget about it and move on.
