10 Unreasonably Annoying Moments In Recent Movies
3. Scuttlebutt - The Little Mermaid
Some of the entries on this list are annoying because they represent a huge gap in a movie's logic, they missed an opportunity, or they took the fun out of something that was supposed to be nothing but fun. Essentially, it's easy to feel short-changed as a member of the audience.
However, this entry doesn't quite go that deep. It's not an insult to those watching, it's just straight up annoying, and it comes in the form of yet another Disney remake.
Most of these new versions will retread the old musical grounds, while also adding something new to the mix. Some of these efforts are better than others, though pretty much all of them are stronger than The Little Mermaid's Scuttlebutt. Did anyone need to hear Scuttle (Awkwafina) rapping for two minutes about how Eric (John Hauer-King) was going to propose to Ariel (Halle Bailey)?
Take Eric's original song from earlier in the film. It didn't exactly set the world on fire, but at least it helped develop a character who didn't enjoy too much spotlight in the original. Scuttlebutt however, was just an irritating couple of minutes that didn't particularly achieve anything, and that the film could have done without.
