10 Upcoming Horror Movie Rumours You Need To Know
9. Joe Hill's Maximum Overdrive Remake
Out of all the horror films to remake, Maximum Overdrive is baffling. Its one of those films that simultaneously needs and don’t need a remake. The idea of killer trucks can be scary, look at Duel for example, but Maximum Overdrive was so crazily shoddy that a remake seems like a waste of time. Even Stephen King himself regrets making the movie because he was so high on cocaine throughout its filming.
Joe Hill, King’s son, has revealed that he wants to repeat his father’s footsteps and write/direct a Maximum Overdrive film all of his own.
In an interview with Mick Garris, Hill stated “I would only want to jump into directing if I had a chance to do the reboot of Maximum Overdrive. If someone offered me the chance to write and direct a relaunch of Maximum Overdrive, I’d jump at that in a second.” He then went on to do describe his artistic vision in great detail with Garris.
Hill’s enthusiasm speaks volumes about his intentions with the movie, so it’s safe to stay that a remake may be in the works in the near future. However, let’s hope that history doesn’t repeat itself and he ends up making a schlocky mess like his father did the first time.
