A movie adaptation of the unexpectedly successful indie game franchise has been rumored since the first Five Nights At Freddy’s game was released.

In 2020, we’ve received confirmation that it will be produced by Blumhouse and, last we heard, Christopher Columbus, director of Home Alone and Mrs. Doubtfire, was directing and Scott Cawthorn, original creator of Five Nights At Freddy’s, was writing.

However, in the last two years of pre-production, it seems like the movie has hit quite a rocky start. Reportedly, Cawthorn’s perfectionist complex caused him to repeatedly re-write the script because he was never happy with it. This has led to various delays in production from 2018 to 2020. However, Blumhouse has stated this year that the movie is “rapidly moving forward” and will hopefully release sometime in 2021.

Blumhouse hasn’t confirmed anything else about the movie as of yet as its still in early production, but in an interview with Fandom he stated “It’s super active, so I really feel like we have a very good shot at getting to see a Five Nights at Freddy’s movie.”

With the immense success of the games and related media, it seems like a movie would be a good idea going forward; that is as long as Cawthorn’s own creative method doesn’t get in the way.
