10 Upcoming Horror Movies That Are Already Doomed
9. Scream 7 (2026)
Scream all you want, but this seventh entry of the iconic meta horror franchise is shaping up to be a bloody disaster.
The Scream series was left in an absolute clusterfrick following the release of the sixth film in 2023. Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett left the next instalment first, then Melissa Barrera was given the boot due to her public condemnation of Israel's action in Palestine as genocide and ethnic cleansing, and co-lead Jenna Ortega departed in solidarity but ostensibly because of scheduling conflicts with her Wednesday TV show.
This called time on the planned trilogy, and the passing of the torch to the next generation of stars. And, unfortunately, attempts to rectify this now gaping hole do not seem to be going well. Producers were forced to come crawling back to Neve Campbell - old series lead Sidney Prescott - who was left out of Scream VI because they weren't willing to pay her what she's worth, but this has failed to lend the production the credibility it requires.
Indeed, it looks like they are throwing everything at the wall, with the rumoured return of original Ghostface Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard), the series' least popular villain Roman Bridger (Scott Foley) and slain hero Dewey Riley (David Arquette). How the film is going to manage this, we don't know - but short of, and including, a virtual reality/simulation storyline, the prospects do not look good.
