10 Upcoming Legacy Movie Sequels That Feel Inevitable

1. Austin Powers 4

Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon Mike Myers Dr Evil

The zeitgeist-grabbing popularity of the Austin Powers trilogy cannot be denied: Mike Myers' comedy franchise was everywhere in the late 1990s through to the early 2000s, and when it wrapped up after three movies, it certainly wasn't because audience interest had evaporated.

Myers has consistently talked-up the prospect of Austin Powers 4 ever since the third's release, yet over 20 years later, it hasn't yet materialised.

But in an era where comedy legacy sequels have become extremely common, why on Earth wouldn't a beloved IP like Austin Powers get dusted off for another pop?

Myers still has the comedic chops to do the job despite his more low-key career in recent years, and given that both several co-stars and original director Jay Roach have also expressed an interest in returning as of late, it really feels like it will happen eventually.

A fourth film which shows Austin struggling to adapt to the climate of the 2020s has a lot of hilarious, self-aware potential, and though most belated comedy sequels admittedly don't fare too well, there's an undeniably pent-up thirst to see more of Myers' unforgettable cabal of characters.
