10 Upcoming Legacy Movie Sequels That Feel Inevitable
2. Scooby-Doo 3
It's easy to forget that the two James Gunn-scripted live-action Scooby-Doo movies grossed more than $450 million combined, and 20 years later remain fond fan faves no matter the negative reviews they received from critics.
Given the considerable nostalgia for these two films and their casts, a legacy threequel which pitted the O.G. cast against a younger, perhaps alt-universe version of themselves could be a whole lot of fun.
While it's incredibly unlikely that a time-strapped James Gunn would be directly involved despite his continued enthusiasm for the IP, his recent hiring as the co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios ensures he now wields a lot of power in the halls of Warner Bros.
In the very least, he could help grease the wheels and even executive produce a Scooby-Doo legacy sequel with a new hand-picked writer-director, while quietly ignoring the short lifespans of Great Danes that would seemingly make Scoob's continued existence impossible.
With Warner Bros. currently working on an animated Velma series for HBO Max, the IP is clearly still a major priority at the studio, and what better way to show that than by producing the threequel fans have been vocally demanding for so long?
