5. Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (9 years)
Previous Release: Sin City, released April 2005.
The Sequel: Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, due out August 2014, delayed from October 2013. This is a project that has been languishing around for so long that I won't quite be convinced of its existence until I'm sitting in the cinema watching it. For years, director Robert Rodriguez has been trying to kick-start production on-and-off while working on various Spy Kids sequels, and the key problem seemed to be in casting Ava Lord, the femme fatale who prominently appears in the titular Frank Miller comic issue. Rodriguez held out so long for Angelina Jolie to take the role that when it eventually didn't work out, it seemed like all that time had been wasted. Alongside this, from 2006 to 2011 we were told on several occasions that Rodriguez has "finished" the script, only for the film to
finally go into production in October 2012, aiming for an August 2013 release. Though we have seen a few handy production stills - such as Josh Brolin's Dwight above - I, like so many others, have become so apathetic and fed-up with the constant ups and downs that I've sort of lost interest in the production. Will it be interesting to see what Eva Green does with Ava Lord? Absolutely, but I'm certainly not chewing my arm off waiting for it to come along next August (apparently).
