10 Upcoming Movie Sequels Everyone Will Ignore
1. The Equalizer 2
You could be forgiven for confusing The Equalizer with The Mechanic because they both starred grim-faced action heroes, they were both scripted by Richard Wenk (The Expandables 2) and they were both pretty forgettable. Taking the similarities one step further, The Equalizer now gets a sequel that viewers weren’t exactly clamoring for.
Destined to be this year’s Mechanic: Resurrection, Equalizer 2 brings back Denzel Washington as Robert McCall, the man with a mysterious past who always manages to find trouble. The 2014 original was based on the 1980s TV show starring Edward Woodward, which wasn’t difficult to guess because the movie threw in every 80s action movie cliché imaginable, from slimy Russian gangsters to the teenage hooker with a heart of gold.
The sequel reunites Denzel with director Antoine Fuqua and if their previous collaboration, the 2016 remake of The Magnificent Seven (who says originality is dead?), is anything to go by it’ll be watchable but completely unmemorable. Plot details are sketchy, but it’s probably asking too much for the movie to deliver anything more than a potboiler script.
If that’s your thing, tune in.
