Why You Should Watch It: Because it looks like a damn fun time, and in a period where the DCEU just can't seem to get its ducks in a row, sometimes that's enough.

Why You'll Actually Watch It: Because fun ain't the norm for the DCEU, and vocal fans want Warner Bros. to learn that audiences will support their movies if they're actually good.

If early box office forecasts can be believed, Shazam! will most likely be an exercise in audiences voting with their wallets and sending the studio a strong message about their desires for the future of the franchise.

Whether you're a self-aware audience member or completely oblivious to where your box office bucks are going, paying to see Shazam! is effectively telling Warner to cool it with the bloated, over-budgeted, CGI-slathered, dour blockbusters, and to start investing in more left-field properties that can operate at lower budgets and are, you know, entertaining.

This is of course assuming the movie ends up being as enjoyable as it looks, of course, but if Billy Batson's origin story is even half-way decent, it could signal a major tonal shift for the entire franchise. It rests entirely in the audience's hands.
