Thanks to the success of Hacksaw Ridge and a few memorable acting turns, Mel Gibson is making something of a comeback, and the actor and director has decided to return to his most successful movie: The Past of the Christ. One of the goriest R-Rated movies in history, that film led to an increase in anti-Semitism and frequently made headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Gibson is moving forward with Resurrection, though, but considering the fact that part of Jesus Christ's story comprised of only a couple of pages, it's clear he's going to have to take some liberties. The director has previously teased plans to follow Jesus' descent into Hell, so it seems fair to say that sh*t is going to get seriously weird here.

This is a movie that's bound to generate controversy at a time where that's really not needed, and it's not like anyone has spent the past few years campaigning for Passion to receive the franchise treatment. At this point, it wouldn't be overly surprising for Gibson to consider a third chapter, and perhaps the only thing moviegoers can really look forward to here are the parodies which will follow.
