How It Lost Fans

Once upon a time, a lot of fans were excited about the idea of an Uncharted movie. But that time was ten years ago.

This project has been in development since 2008, and since then, has lost more than three different directors, changed release dates countless times, had numerous scripts written, and become one of the most troublesome projects currently percolating in Hollywood.

"Development hell" is an understatement here, and considering that video game movies are usually bad anyway, there are few people left who have faith that Sony will be able to salvage this mess, especially when you look at how poorly they've handled the project so far. Fans can't have confidence in a studio that doesn't seem to know what it's doing.

How It's Trying To Win Them Back

No matter how many times we hear that it's coming, nobody will believe that the Uncharted movie is going to happen until we see that first trailer. However, that doesn't mean it's impossible for Sony to get fans excited again, and they started to do that just recently when they hired director Travis Knight.

Knight helmed Kubo and the Two Strings and Bumblebee, two incredible films that proved he can deliver blockbuster thrills while keeping a keen eye on character and story. Can Knight break the video game movie curse? At this point, it doesn't feel like anybody can, but bringing in top-tier filmmaking talent has at least given fans of Uncharted reason to hope.

He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
