How It Lost Fans

The Artemis Fowl books aren't on the level of something like Harry Potter or The Hunger Games, but they have a devoted fanbase that's been eager for a big-screen adaptation for years and years. Unfortunately though, Disney's upcoming blockbuster just doesn't look all that good.

A terrible teaser trailer absolutely murdered any and all enthusiasm that fans of the franchise had about this movie, and didn't do much to bring newcomers onboard, either. It made the film look like your average kiddie fantasy flick, with none of the edge present in the source material

It was a big disappointment - especially with the great Kenneth Branagh at the helm - and the 17,000 dislikes on the official upload speak for themselves.

How It's Trying To Win Them Back

Since that first trailer, the Artemis Fowl camp has gone deathly quiet, seemingly burned by the negative reaction. The film was originally scheduled for an August 2019 release, but earlier this year, it was pushed back to May 2020, with no reason given for the change.

This could just be a simple case of release date switching, something that happens all the time in Hollywood. However, this delay is hopefully so that the filmmakers have more time to rework the movie in light of fan feedback, giving them several extra months to perform reshoots and make any other changes they deem fit.

If this is the case, then a second, improved trailer could completely change the way everyone feels about this movie, as was the case with Sonic the Hedgehog and its redesigned title character.
