10 Upcoming Movies That Could Bomb At The Box Office
6. Mowgli
Originally announced way back in April 2012, Mowgli has been a long time coming. Cameras began rolling on what was supposed to be Andy Serkis' directorial debut in March 2015, but the project suffered through so many post-production delays and release date shuffles that Serkis' Robin Cavendish biopic Breathe (which didn't start filming until 2016) beat it to theaters by well over a year.
Scheduling issues aside, the real elephant in the room (ha!) is Jon Favreau's Jungle Book, which opened to widespread critical acclaim and $966.6m at the box office just two years ago. Do audiences really want, or need for that matter, another interpretation of the same story so soon after such a universally-popular hit?
October is a traditionally slow month at the box office and despite boasting a stacked cast that includes Serkis, Christian Bale, Benedict Cumberbatch and Cate Blanchett, Mowgli could turn out to be too intense for youngsters that were enraptured by Favreau's movie and not essential enough viewing to convince casual moviegoers to open their wallets.
