10 Upcoming Movies That Could Bomb At The Box Office

Sony's bizarre approach to their most lucrative franchise continues with the release of Venom, a movie many thought would never actually see the light of day. The first installment in the so-called 'Sony Marvel Universe', the project features characters from Spider-Man lore but not the iconic wall-crawler himself, who is exclusively part of Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe. Confusing, right?

Venom's major selling point is Tom Hardy taking the lead in a comic book movie and while he is undoubtedly one of the best actors working today, is he a big enough star to open a studio blockbuster? Obviously it helps that the title character remains hugely popular with fans, but there are still so many question marks surrounding Venom's chances of success.

In all honesty, this thing could go either way. The wildly inconsistent Ruben Fleischer is behind the camera and the four writers credited to the screenplay have recently been responsible for writing the likes of Gangster Squad, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, The Dark Tower and Fifty Shades of Grey. Yikes. And of course it would be remiss not to mention how much Sony love meddling in their own affairs.

The potential is definitely there for a brilliant sci-fi tinged comic book flick, but despite how much fans of both the character and source material are willing Venom to be a box office smash, the jury is still out on this one.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
