2. Shrek 5

Though 2010's Shrek Forever After was originally intended to be the final entry into the franchise, considering Shrek's enduring popularity in pop-culture it was always inevitable that a fifth film would be announced eventually.

And indeed, after years of rumours Shrek 5 was formally confirmed in 2023, shortly after the release of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, with Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz set to return.

Though originally slated to release on July 1, 2026, it ended up being pushed to December 23, 2026, but we've just learned that Shrek 5 won't be making this date either.

Universal and DreamWorks Animation have decided to nudge the animated sequel an additional six months to June 30, 2027, to avoid competing with Ice Age 6 and Avengers: Doomsday, both of which are currently set to release on December 18, 2026.

It's a smart move honestly, and while waiting an extra half-year for a new Shrek adventure might be agonising to fans, getting the hell out of The Avengers' way is the only play that makes business sense here.
