And finally, no film on this list has been more terminally delayed than Terrence Malick's biblical drama The Way of the Wind.

Malick shot the film throughout 2019, and even accepting that the filmmaker has famously spent several years editing many of his movies, we still don't have a firm release date for his latest.

The Way of the Wind has been expected to premiere at basically the last three or four editions of the Cannes Film Festival, but the editing process is still ongoing.

According to one of the film's cast members Mathieu Kassovitz, Malick shot an eye-watering 3,000 hours of footage by the end of filming. That'll do it.

Despite reports emerging earlier this year that the film was finally completed and set for a Cannes 2025 premiere while being shopped around to distributors for release later in the year, follow-up reports indicate Malick is still "nowhere near finished" editing, and the film's release is once again delayed.

So, expect to do this dance all over again in 2026, which may or may not be the year that it finally comes out.
