The Elevator Pitch: The team behind John Wick produces a bloody Christmas thriller.

It's been a fair old while since we've had a great Christmas horror movie. Better Watch Out and Krampus were both alright, but then along comes an absolute stinker like 2019's Black Christmas, ruining a decent streak.

2022 will see a new contender enter the ring, in the form of Violent Night. It's being described as a thriller movie set during the festive season, and while that doesn't exactly sound revolutionary, it's the odd mix of talent involved that elevates this package from passable, to genuinely intriguing.

First up, David Harbour is set to star, an instant win for any project - it's easy to forget now, but we were all excited about Hellboy when we learned he was involved.

Add to that the director of some crazy fun movies like Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters and Dead Snow, who is working from a script penned by the Sonic The Hedgehog writers - yes, really - all backed by producers from 87North, the company behind John Wick, Atomic Blonde, and Nobody.

It's a bonkers recipe, setting up Violent Night to be an incredibly nutty ride.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
