10 Upcoming Movies with INSANE Plots

1. The Entertainment System Is Down

Triangle of Sadness Ruben Ostlund
Lionsgate

And finally, Triangle of Sadness director Ruben Östlund returns with his latest provocative social satire, which boasts one hell of a celebrated ensemble cast.

The Entertainment System Is Down's delicious premise unfolds onboard a long-haul flight between England and Australia, where the in-flight entertainment system fails, causing intense boredom to set in among the passengers.

Once again Östlund is firing at a broad target here, sending up our collective reliance on technology to coddle our restless minds, but it's certainly a hilariously deranged setup, and moreover seems perfectly fine-tuned to his penchant for black comedy.

Östlund will need to go some to top the unforgettable insanity of his previous Palme d'Or-winning effort, but given the talent he's roped in this time, things sure are looking good.

The increasingly irritable, and presumably eventually unruly passengers will be played by the likes of Keanu Reeves, Kirsten Dunst, Daniel Brühl, Samantha Morton, Nicholas Braun, Connor Swindells, and Julie Delpy, among many more.

The film is currently deep in production, and so there's a strong chance it'll be In Competition at next year's Cannes Film Festival, while possibly even vying for Oscar gold in 2027.
