10 Upcoming Remakes That Could Be Better Than The Original
8. Death Note
Death Note began life as a manga written by Tsugumi Obha before winging its way to television in the form of an excellent anime series, then moving into the world of live action for a run at Japanese cinemas. Throw in a few anime movies and novelisations and it's clear that this is a property which has a proven track record for success. Whether or not this success translates over to the west remains to be seen - Death Note is rooted in a certain kind of Japanese folklore that has certainly been adapted for an English language audience before - but the source material is undoubtedly solid, with the story of a student who rids the world of evil by writing their name in a supernatural notebook satisfying the wish fulfilment fantasies of teens the world over. Gus Van Sant was originally lined up to direct, which could have been a very interesting choice. The more appropriate Adam Wingard is now set to helm - You're Next and The Guest would suggest he's got the right attitude to the horror genre to do it justice.
