10 Upcoming Video Game Movies That Absolutely Nobody Asked For
5. Angry Birds
Quick! Name a thing. Anything at all. Whatever you just said, chances are high that the creators of Angry Birds have at least thought about merchandising that. Noticing this with its quick wit, the internet has been joking about an Angry Birds feature film for years, and now it seems the Irony Genie will grant its collective "wish". Thanks again, internet. The Angry Birds Movie is currently set for a 2016 release, a wait of about ninety times the length of the attention span the game is designed for. The rivalry between the furious fowl and the green, egg-stealing ham is fine in animated shorts, but stretching the shallow slapstick shenanigans longer than seven minutes seems like a worse idea than using the blue bird on a stone block. Don't pretend you don't get that reference. We know why it takes you so long to poop. There's zero news on plot details yet, but the team announced so far is impressive enough to make us question our comfortable cynicism. The script - hard as it is to imagine the characters actually talking - will be penned by Jon Vitti, a veteran writer of The Simpsons, Saturday Night Live, and The (American) Office. In the directors' chairs are Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly, a pair of animators who have worked on Wreck-It Ralph, Tangled, Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, and other movies that made us offer to babysit random kids so we had an excuse to go see them. With the multi-zillion dollar empire of the self-proclaimed entertainment company of this millennium behind it, dont be surprised if Angry Birds turns out to be The Lego Movie of 2016.
