10 Video Game Movies That Were Truly Terrible

9. Need For Speed (2014)

Mortal Kombat Annihilation
DreamWorks SKG

Hot of the heels of Breaking Bad, Need for Speed looked to be Aaron Paul's shot at cinematic fame.

At least... it did until people saw the under-baked story that didn't compare well to similar established franchises such as Fast and the Furious. The connection to the video game was tenuous and the redemption story ark for Paul's character was difficult to get behind, for no better reason than he was deeply unlikable.

Fast cars are a quick way to get the heart of audiences but in this instance, the film outstayed its welcome when it clocked over two hours of screen time. This film seemed to be a classic case of a cheaper version of an existing beloved franchise that went on to underperform.

After all, despite his acting credentials, no one really wants to swap Vin Diesel for Aaron Paul. Given the action genre that Need For Speed fits into, the preference for more traditional action stars is understandable.

In all fairness, no one has really played a Need for Speed game for the plot and the prospect of a story clearly intrigued viewers as it made money at the box office. Unfortunately, not many people left the cinema asking for a sequel.
