10 Villainous Performances From Actors Who Also Played Jesus

6. John Hurt - V For Vendetta

Beloved British actor John Hurt has been in some amazing films: The Elephant Man, Alien, and the Harry Potter movies.

Known primarily as a dramatic actor, he has a few comedies under his belt; his appearance as Jesus in Mel Brooks’ History Of The World: Part One is one of the funnier of them. Trying to relay the message of his impending betrayal, Hurt’s Jesus is interrupted by an annoying waiter and told to hold still in a pose for Leonardo’s immortal painting named for the famous meal.

He lampooned his role from Alien in Brooks’ later Spaceballs, and in his villainous performance in V For Vendetta, he plays Chancelor Sutler, the veritable Big Brother he feared as everyman Winston Smith in the dystopian film 1984. The despot Sutler rules fascist future Britain with fear and violence, until the disruption of a masked vigilante known only as V threatens his unquestioned rule.
