10 Villainous Performances From Actors Who Also Played Jesus

7. Victor Garber - Big Game

Christian Bale Jesus
Columbia/Nordisk

Victor Garber was a singer and Broadway actor before he premiered on the big screen in his first film as Jesus in the musical Godspell.

The film was an adaptation of the stage musical, part of a boom of Biblical musicals from the late 1960s and early 1970s that included Jesus Christ Superstar and Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, and the hippie influence shows. Garber’s Jesus is kind, playful, and welcoming, arrayed in a big perm and clown make-up along with his faux-Superman shirt.

Nothing could be further from the sweet openness of Garber’s Jesus than that of the cold-blooded traitor Vice President he played in 2014’s Big Game. Secretly arranging to have the President attacked and killed by terrorists in order to launch a new ideological war, the Vice President’s plan is ultimately thwarted and he gets his deserved punishment in an appropriately embarrassing way.
