10 Ways Deadpool 2 Is Actually A Huge Disappointment
4. It Wastes New Characters
The news that Deadpool 2 would bring Domino and Cable to the big-screen was enough to set comics' fans hearts ablaze. Both were iconic characters who had long been denied the big-screen treatment they deserved.
When news broke that these roles would be brought to life by Zazie Beetz and Josh Brolin, respectively, there was even more reason to be excited. But sadly, the final product is less than thrilling.
Beetz and Brolin give it their all and are more than likable, but neither are ever given much to do. They are both essentially teasers trailers for themselves, there to excite fans further about the prospect of the upcoming X-Force film, but offer little of actual substance.
Brolin's Cable looks like the character stepped right out of the comics but he never gets to actually be anything more than a large intimidating dude. If it weren't for the metal arm, Brolin could have literally been playing any other character and it would have made no difference. The same could be said of Beetz's Domino. They never get the chance to be anything more than two-dimensional stand-ins, waiting for more to do.
Anyone who hasn't read the comics is left without any understanding of who or what Cable is other than he's from the future because this film avoids it like the plague. Domino's luck powers are established, utilized in one key sequence, and then just brushed aside and used as an occasionally convenient plot device.
With all of the new characters, the film is so busy introducing them and setting them up for future adventures that it forgets to ever develop them.
