The story of Henry Cavill’s moustache is now infamous. Due to the heavily compromised production, including many script changes and Joss Whedon coming in to finish up the movie after original director Zack Synder had to leave due to a family tragedy, reshoots were inevitable.

Reshoots are incredibly common on big budget production, and usually occur with the audience not even noticing. There was, however, a little, moustache-sized problem with reshoots for Justice League.

Superman star Henry Cavill was busy shooting Mission Impossible: Fallout when the call came in to do reshoots for the DC tentpole. Should be no problem, right? Well, no, not in this case. See, Cavill was contractually obligated to not shave his mustache, meaning he would have to do reshoots with the stache intact.

Warner Bros. saw no other option and ordered for his mustache to be removed digitally. This reportedly cost the studio up to $25 million in CGI - an insane amount. With such a large amount spent on it, the results aren’t exactly great.

Many people took to social media to decry the effects, with many pointing out how fake the bottom half of Cavill’s face looked. And they’re not wrong. Despite the colossal sum spent, Cavill’s face looks like a Ken doll come to life.

It gives a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘put your money where your mouth is.’
